University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy launches a new master's programme in Creative Project Management

The University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy is launching a one-year English-language master's programme, Creative Project Management, in 2024. The new curriculum is aimed at current and future talents in the creative field.

The programme allows students to implement their own projects during the study period and find opportunities to enter the creative industry sector. The curriculum includes collaboration with sector-specific organisations (such as Music Estonia, Creative Estonia) and experts (such as creative industry experts Virgo Sillamaa, Ragnar Siil, Juko-Mart Kõlar) to convey best practices and strengthen sector collaboration.

According to Kadri Steinbach, the Director of Studies at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, the curriculum is unique because all the subjects support the completion of the final project: "The subjects of the curriculum are arranged following the life cycle of one creative project, from idea to realisation. This approach supports students comprehensively and helps them achieve a good final result." In addition, individual mentorship is provided to master's students throughout the entire academic year, contributing to career stability.

The total revenue of the creative industry in Estonia is 2 billion euros annually, and over the past four years, the sector has grown by 25%. There has been a significant increase in the demand for experienced leaders who understand the life cycle of a project, financial perspectives, and the challenges of internationalisation.

The scope of the Creative Project Management programme is 60 ECTS, and the total duration of the studies is one year. The programme is fee-based (tuition fee of 6,000 euros), with two free study places available for the best candidates. Applicants from both Estonia and abroad are welcome.

The instruction is in English and in a hybrid form. This means that during the first semester, meetings take place in an online environment, and in the second semester, intensive on-site learning sessions occur.

Documents for the programme can be submitted from 2 January to 15 March. Admission decisions will be announced by 30 April, and the academic year begins on 2 September.
